North Captiva Island was once part of larger Captiva Island, but storms during the 1920s severed the landmass, leaving the 4-mile-long crescent known today as North Captiva Island. In addition to no cars, the island has no paved roads, no hotels and no grocery stores. Visitors can book beach houses and tour the small island’s sandy trails by foot or golf cart, and they’ll quickly discover that North Captiva’s dolphins and gopher tortoises outnumber its people.

“Only when the last tree has died.
and the last river been poisoned.
and the last fish been caught.
will we realize we cannot eat money”.

How are you going green this Thanksgiving? If your not, I found these tips to help you go green! Hope this helps!
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
To make your Thanksgiving celebration as green as possible, start with the three Rs of conservation: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Reduce the amount of…

Ingredients:
3 ½ cups dried black beans picked over and rinsed (you can substitute 2 cans of black beans but make sure you buy a brand that doesn’t contain the bisphenol A or BPA lining)
1 onion, finely chopped
3 fresh cilantro sprigs
3 garlic cloves, smashed, skins removed
4 tablespoons of mayonnaise (or substitute Greek yogurt)
1/3 cup dried bread crumbs (to make gluten-free use gluten free crackers)
2 ½ teaspoons of ground coriander
½ teaspoon of ground chipotle seasoning
½ cup chopped cilantro
4 burger buns (my favorite are brioche!)
2 tablespoons of grapeseed oil (or some other high heat oil like avocado oil)
Accompaniments:
1 avocado sliced thin
Salsa or pico de gallo, or fresh tomatoes
Lettuce
Cheese of choice (if desired)

Small actions - Big Impact - Get involved - Create Your Pearl -

There are many ways to produce less waste:
- Reduce the amount and toxicity of trash you throw away and reuse containers and products.
- Recycle as much as possible and buy products with recycled content.
- Practice composting by using microorganisms (mainly bacteria and fungi) to decompose organic waste, such as food scraps and yard trimmings.
The concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle is equally important for household hazardous waste and industrial materials.
- Household Hazardous Waste: Improper disposal of leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients can pollute the environment and pose a threat to human health.
- Industrial Materials: Industrial non-hazardous wastes that can be recycled and reused are key to a successful resource conservation program.
